Grupo Puntacana was set up over 40 years ago with a vision of
creating a tourism and lifestyle destination with the desire for
sustainable tourism and social responsibility towards the surrounding
local community as it's core values. Much of this vision has been
achieved; the company has won many prizes and awards for its pioneering
environmental projects and principles. It has also invested in the
community through infrastructural improvements and setting up health and
educational facilities.
As part of this vision, it became obvious in the mid 1990s that there
was a need for quality education in the area that would cater to both
the local Dominican population and also the rapidly expanding national
and foreign community working in the tourist industry and related
businesses. Puntacana International School opened in 2000 with just
several grades and has since expanded to what it is today.
We now have over 20 nationalities represented in our student body of
over 500 students ranging from Toddler 1 up to 12th Grade level. Our
teachers are from the Dominican Republic and also from other countries
around the world, delivering a truly international experience for our
students.
Puntacana International School is an educational institution
recognized by the Dominican Ministry of Education (MINERD). The school
follows the official programs of MINERD in the Spanish curriculum; and
in English following the U.S. Common Core State Standards meeting the
curricular levels for international schools. The school is accredited by
the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and The
Council of International Schools (CIS).
